People have been drinking tea for hundreds of thousands of years, but it wasn’t until relatively recently that we began to understand the mechanism by which it works. In a very “Archimedes in the tub” moment, the French physicist Pierre Curie was giving his cat a bath when he had his famous revelation on tea. Upon pouring the boiling water over Lil’ Pierre (his cat), the animal dissolved almost completely, leaving only a few tufts of fur and a distinctly darker tub of water.
