I'm fine, ma'am.

Did you know …

That the famous famous theoretical physicist Richard Feynman was never photographed with an open smile? It’s true!

Is it because he contained a tiny black hole within his head, and to look at it would have been too terrifying for any human to endure? Of course not! That is something a crazy person would say!

No, the reason is much more likely due to the fact that Feynman didn’t have any front teeth, thanks to an incident that took place in the spring of 1939. Feynman was walking down the street of Gary, Indiana, singing the now-classic “The Lady is a Tramp.” Overhearing and misunderstanding the lyrics, a nearby lady hit Feynman in the mouth with a brass paperweight in the shape of a pelican. Then, while the young physicist was still recovering, a nearby tramp hit him in the mouth with a rake handle. Whether this second attack was prompted by the song, mental illness, the consumption of wood alcohol, or a combination of the three is not clear.

Smile however you want, Dick!
