Pullin' a Vincent

Did you know …

That the famous painter Vincent van Gogh cut his ear off four times, and it regrew each time? It’s true!

Or, to be more accurate, he cut his ear off three times and it regrew three times. The fourth time, he cut his ear off, fell asleep on the severed ear, and found it reattached to his head when he woke up! (We can be certain that this was not the situation with the other three ear-severings, because in each of those cases the severed ear was eaten by alley cats, so the new ears had to have been grown from scratch, as it were.)

Scientists aren’t sure whether every person has this ability, or if it was an X-Men style mutant power possessed by van Gogh alone. As of yet, no test subjects have been brave enough to “pull a Vincent” to see whether or not their ears will grow back.
