We've come a long way! Probably measurable in kilometers!

Let us set aside for a moment the nascent Irish Science Week, resting it gently on the sidewalk like a baby outside a pornography store, and turn our attention to another special occasion …

Did you know …

That today marks the sixth month anniversary of Your Daily Science Fact? It’s true! And what a six months it has been!

In just the time it would take for parasitic spider larvae to hatch in your brain and chew their way to freedom through your sleeping eyeballs, we’ve learned the true reason for the dinosaurs’ extinction, we’ve revealed that the Kennedys are in fact lizardmen (but not the bad kind), we’ve developed a recipe for a devil’s food cake that contains no food products, and we’ve been indirectly responsible for the euthanization of over 150 very bad cats. What a run! And what could the next six months bring? Only time will tell!

Also, just so we don’t stray too far from Greenweek’s Irish science theme, here is a list of things invented by Irish scientists and engineers:
-Tuberculosis
-Lucky Charms (the cereal)
-“Lucky charms” (the venereal disease)
-The submarine
-Flightless birds
-The colors orange and puce (but not green!)
-Kites
-Phantom limbs
-The compact fluorescent light bulb
-And many more, including several alcohol and alcoholism related things that I’m not racist enough to mention. Or am I? I’m not! Alcoholism is a terrible disease, and by no means confined to a single ethnicity, nationality, or genetic population. Shame on you!
